# It’s not where you start but where you finish that counts. Zig Ziglar said that. 6 years ago today my eyes welled up with tears as a packed Turner Field sang along with a little boy from Johnson Central. I don’t know Chris Stapleton but at the time I had spent the last 6 years listening to Johnson County folks brag about *Who \[they were\] Listening To* and seeing him play a packed stadium that sang along to every word… It was really something. Since then, distant relative, Tyler Childers has become pretty well known. And the world has a glimpse of the *Whitehouse Road* that I spent decades trying to put behind me. Just this year a young man from Louisa (Noah Thompson) won American Idol. If these boys can crawl out of the hills and make something of themselves… Anything is possible. Which isn’t to say that they are not talented and deserving of their fame. I think they are. But to say that the odds are stacked against them is an understatement.
Floating side-by-side down the river sometimes listening to the relaxing hum of nature, other times listening to music that moves our souls…. Saturday was a great day.

Apparently it’s possible to post to the blog from my journal app… which is great but before I send anything I’m emotionally invested in I want to see how it looks and if it works.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

This is far from the beginning of my story. It’s probably nearer the middle, but things are just starting to get good really. So here it is that I will begin sharing a few words with the world.
